His leadership and vision led to the development of comprehensive training programs, better resource allocation, and the integration of advanced technologies, which enhanced the readiness and operational capabilities of the Air Force. The annual Lieutenant General Leo Marquez Award, established in his honor, continues to celebrate outstanding achievements in logistics, ensuring his legacy inspires future generations of Air Force logisticians.
General Leo Marquez hailed from Albuqueruqe, New Mexico, where he was born and raised. His roots shaped his strong sense of community and commitment to service. Beyond his distinguished military career, Marquez remained deeply connected to his hometown, actively participating in local initiatives and supporting various community programs. Marquez is credited for being instrumental in keeping Kirtland Air Force Base operational after it had been placed on the Base Realignment and Closure Commission list in 1995. The Kirtland AFB LOA Chapter is proud to bear the name of Lieutenant General Leo Marquez, honoring his legacy and contributions to Air Force logistics and the Albuquerque community.

Enjoy a breakfast at 8:30 AM followed by a 9:00 AM shotgun start in a 9-hole Scramble tournament. 10 July 2024. The Leo Marquez Chapter toured the SpacePort America facility located in Truth and Consequences, NM. Spaceport America is the first purpose-built commercial spaceport in the world. The 58 Special Operations Wing's Operations and Aircraft Maintenance Squadrons a Kirtland AFB worked together to fly the chapter in on a C-130. Contact the chapter for additional details.
